Hello, Time3000~commonswiki!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hello, I would like to use your image of the Apollonian packing in a scientific paper - and if that is possible, I would like to acknowledge you for it. If this is OK, could you let me know in some way who you are? Tilia cordata (talk) 09:43, 15 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That shouldn't be a problem. I'd prefer to remain anonymous, so if you just credited it something like "Time3000 on Wikimedia Commons" that would be fine. I'd appreciate a reference to the paper once it's published as well, if that's possible. Thanks, Time3000 (talk) 12:12, 16 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just got an acceptance email from Physical Review E. The title of the paper is "Estimate for the fractal dimension of the Apollonian gasket in d dimensions". I'll put it up on the Los Alamos preprint archive once I have seen the galley proofs. Thank you again for the use of the image - it looks great! I have put in the acknowledgements "Fig. 1 was supplied by the user Time3000 on the Wikimedia Commons webproject". I hope that is OK?

Noticed that amino in ACC is spelt "ammino." If you still have the reference file it would be worth updating the text.

Turtle map

[edit]

I noticed you created the rather nice File:Bog turtle distribution map.svg, is it possible you could help with the Wood turtle. I started myself but am stuck because I do not know of map with America and Canada on(unlike the Bog tutle, the wood turtle ventures into Canada. In your map locater you have both countries which would be great place to start. Can you tell me where to locate locater map original? Regards, SunCreator (talk) 20:14, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
