Image Tagging Image:Sc250.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Sc250.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-3.0}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. --Filnik 17:00, 18 August 2007 (UTC)
Hello, and thank your for sharing your files with Commons. There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. Please remember that all uploads require source, author and license information. Could you please resolve these problems, which are described on the page linked in above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which information may be missing. Thank you.

Hi Avaron. Why did you remove some category? How do you have intentions? I think these are needs for Image:Bow Draw.svg. Please show me your any ideas. _Fukutaro 16:10, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, I want to clean up some things there. The main categories arre Archery, Bow, and Arrows. "Bow and arrow" is a very strange category and it should become a redirect. The image you mention are the differet kinds of holding an arrow. Only one of them is used in Kyudo (which is a subcategory of archery). Yumi ist the japanese bow, so the cat was unnecesary.
- I saw you reverted my first change; normaly I would ask you why, but I have changed many Images now, so I didn't notice. --Avron 17:42, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, indeed. It was certain a bit distractively category(s) page(s). Now on you did, It's clearly showing for people who finding and needs images. Thanks for explanation, and sorry for jump to a wrong conclusion. :) _Fukutaro 12:49, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Avron, you have tagged this image as dupe of this image. The question is, however, if these images are indeed identical as the uploader of the second image has claimed that he edited it. Please take a look at this discussion. If these two images are not identical but one of them is redunddant it is possible to file one of them for a regular deletion process. A speedy deletion is for obvious cases only and because of this I've removed this tag. Thanks for your support and best wishes, AFBorchert (talk) 15:08, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

File:Familyvanharen.jpg up for deletion
[edit]Avron -
Please do not take down this photo. I have already been through this several times a couple months ago with DJ Clayworth, and we went through the proper back and forth to discern that it has the proper copyright and is OK to be up. This is an old family photo of Arthur and his father that was uploaded by his grandson who worked with me to create this page. Please let me know what else I need to do in order for this picture to stop getting flagged.
Thanks.
- This picture lacks a propper discripiton and categorization. Pictures in wikipedia must be realistically useful for an educational purpose. It is not used anywhere so I don't know what you mean with to create this page --Avron (talk) 09:46, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
West Gate Towers, Westgate and new categories
[edit]Hi Avron. Thanks for reorganising the categories. In case you decide to do any more in this area, some information may help you. Westgate is a civic ward in Canterbury with 3 councillors here serving an area with shops, houses and people as well as the city gate, so the views from the city gate (usually called The Westgate) are of Westgate too. West Gate Towers Museum is the military museum which has been inside the building for 100 years. The Westgate (city gate) includes its own bridge across the River Stour, and views along the River Stour at this point are in the area of Westgate.
So it's safest not to remove the category "Canterbury, West Gate" from any of these, even though you have written it as two words, when it should be one word. Sorry it's so confusing. I was away this weekend, otherwise I should have seen all your hard work and would have explained earlier. I think I have now checked every image which you re-categorised, and brought back all my images into the two categories "Westgate Museum" and "Canterbury West Gate". The one with Canterbury Cathedral includes some of Westgate, too.--Storye book (talk) 00:32, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks. For the category name, I used the naming which is used on the official homepage [2]. If other name is better, so use Template:Category redirect for renaming.--Avron (talk) 13:15, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Underway replenishment
[edit]Hi,
I noticed you are re-organizing the subcategories. Just wondering, doesn't "Alongside connected replenishment" apply almost all subcategories of current "Underway replenishment" (except vertical/astern)? -- User:Docu at 15:50, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hello, according to en:Underway replenishment there are 3 major methods: Alongside connected replenishment, Astern fueling and Vertical replenishment. I tried to make it this way.--Avron (talk) 17:45, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'd rather leave it in the present way. Astern and vertical already have their own subcategories. Besides that, for fuel there is also a specific subcategory. Fuel can be either alongside or astern. Vertical is frequently done with connected, but I'd avoid attempting to make additional subcategories showing the two in combination (or maybe not?). The subcategories for vertical could obviously be expanded. -- User:Docu at 17:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Due to the fact that astern and vertical replenishment already have their own subcategories, it is important to to show that there are 3 methods. Fuel can be either alongside or astern yes. Material can be either vertical or alongside. Vertical is frequently done with connected maybe, but the method is compleatly different.--Avron (talk) 18:15, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think you can already identify astern and vertical with the current categories, but if you feel like doing it, happy sorting. Just keep in mind that the images should attempt to illustrate the method. -- User:Docu at 18:23, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

OZM images
[edit]Sorry but I don't understand the reason you asked for these three images to be deleted, I know I have incorrectly uploaded images I should have not in the past, mostly because I was still new. If I understood, it seems that I have uploaded a different image, but this is the same image of the one on en:wikipedia, and it doesn't seem to be a copyviol. But maybe I have not understood your explanation, could you rephrase it please? Thanks, --Amendola90 (talk) 17:39, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
- This images aren't old (over 70 years) so there must be a copyright-holder. It is very unlikely that the uploader (Ak70g2) in en:wikipedia is the copyright-holder. Two of the images are high professional images and this user has uploaded several copyvios. So the images probably aren't under the creative commons license.--Avron (talk) 11:25, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks, I had misunderstood your explanation. For as much as I know, you're free to cancel them, I just transferred them on Commons for the page on the Italian Wikipedia. --Amendola90 (talk) 17:10, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

File tagging File:Wiki thesealights.jpg
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Wiki thesealights.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Wiki thesealights.jpg]] ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

I could amplify this on the file description ie.sense of place, immediacy, correct angle to avoid distortion and so on. Copyright status: File:AKWs Africa.png
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:AKWs Africa.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

File tagging File:Fedex md-10 crash memphis.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Fedex md-10 crash memphis.jpg.
Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

Question about naming for Marine units
[edit]Hi!! Was uploading a few images that had marines in them and noticed that the unit's name didn't have a comma. Normally I wouldn't care about that too much but when looking for their categories, I usually type "2nd Battalion," and then search for the regiment. The comma helps differentiate it from all the other "2nd battalion"s out there and most of the official literature usually uses a comma for their name. I noticed that a lot of the categories in Wikimedia for the marines don't have the comma (or the comma-included name redirects to the non-comma version) and was wondering why. Just curious and I don't wanna break any systems in place if they're done that way for a reason. Jasonkwe (talk) (contribs) 18:26, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
- I think also there should be a comma so "1st Battalion, 2nd Marines". en.wiki has comma [6], the official side also [7]Avron (talk) 11:15, 26 June 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Regarding that file it appears to show marines of more nationalities than any other photograph on commons. That would make it helpful in the Category:Marines https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Marines It would be easy to find there and could then be included in the article Marines https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marines or the Naval infantry section https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Navy#Naval_infantry of the Navy article.
That file is in the Category:United States Marine Corps which is not the only possibility or as specific as it could be. You could instead add any of these categories https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:People_of_the_United_States_Marine_Corps https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:United_States_military_in_Gabon this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:United_States_Marine_Corps_in_foreign_countries this https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:United_States_Navy_images_from_Gabon and https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Libreville_in_the_2010s What do you think?
